Quadra Village Community Centre is a vibrant organization offering relevant programs in the Hillside-Quadra Neighbourhood. Our core values include care, respect, inclusivity and community. We are currently looking for staff who are available for Monday, and Tuesday afternoons, with a combination of some morning, and afternoons for Wednesday – Friday as well as full days (pro-d and school breaks) shifts (part-time, on call) for our Licensed Out of School Care Program at Quadra Village Community Childcare.  The program runs Monday to Friday, September to June, and full days for all School District 61 breaks and closures. Full time or part-time summer employment is also a possibility.

This is an excellent opportunity for a post-secondary student as the hours are flexible and fit easily around most academic schedules. It also could be a great fit for a community member that loves kids and is looking for part-time work. Educational Assistants at George Jay and Quadra School would also be able to make many of our shifts work due to how the role fits around the school day.  These positions provide the opportunity to work with and collaboratively design fun experiences for a diverse group of elementary school aged students.

Job Title:    Out of School Care Leader

Reports to: Child Care & Early Years Supervisor

Role:          To provide support and direct care to children in the Licensed Care Program, encouraging intellectual, physical and emotional growth

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implements developmentally appropriate activities for program participants
  • Identifies and supports children attending the program who are experiencing challenges, and collaborates with other Leaders and Supervisors to work with the children to build useful skills through modeling, mentoring, teachable moments and supportive conversations
  • Ensures program environments are clean, suitable, caring, respectful and inclusive
  • Ensures compliance with all safety and security protocols related to the Childcare environment, including the administration of emergency preparedness drills
  • Implements the Policies and Procedures of QVCC, as well as those specific to the Community Childcare program
  • Supports communication between staff, supervisor, parents, caregivers, schools and relevant agencies
  • Maintains awareness of participant feedback and integrates constructive feedback in practice/programs 
  • Responds to general inquiries regarding Quadra Village Community Childcare and shares in the work of operating and maintaining a functional and useful community centre.
  • Ensures the maintenance and tabulation of attendance and incident logs regarding the program and participants, making regular written and verbal reports as required by Childcare Licensing and the Supervisor
  • Transports children in the agency’s vehicle, updates applicable log books and ensures the vehicle is clean and well maintained
  • Performs other related duties when required and approved by the Supervisors or Executive Director.


  • Food Safe Certified
  • First Aid and CPR
  • 20 Hours Responsible Adult Certificate or minimum 20 hours of recognized training/course work in child development, guidance, nutrition, or health and safety. QVCC may provide formal training or coursework for the successful candidate
  • Class 4 Driver’s Licence, or willingness to obtain (preferred but not required)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills: excellent interpersonal and collaborative ability
  • Ability to work with integrity and respect in a diverse, multi-cultural community centre

Experience and Education:

  • Experience and/or education directly related to school aged childcare, summer camp, recreation, child and youth development, developmentally appropriate activities, behavior management and group supervision are all considered an asset for this position.
  • High School Graduation

  • $16.75 per hour

Hours of Work:

Shifts available through the school year are currently:

Afternoons: 2:15pm to 6pm
Mornings: 7:20am to 9:20am
Early Dismissals: Generally start by 10:45am, up to 6pm
Pro-D Days & School Holiday Breaks: 1st shifts start at 8:15am, with last shift ending at 6pm.

Shift scheduling is based on your individual availability, combined with the requirements of other part time staff. Contract hours to be determined upon hiring.

*The successful candidate will be required to undergo a vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check and must be at least 19 years of age
